Here’s a closer look at why we do what we do:
🌀 Circle Time
We begin in a circle on the floor to help focus attention, create connection, and talk about the importance of stretching to keep our bodies safe. Asking fun questions like “What’s your favourite pizza topping?” gives every dancer a chance to use their voice and feel comfortable sharing in class.
➡️ Progressions Across the Room
Whether moving front-to-back or side-to-side, these activities teach dancers how to take turns, understand spatial direction, follow instructions, and work patiently within a group—all skills that set them up for success on stage and in life.
🎵 Song & Dance Games
Games like “Fly Like a Butterfly,” “Freeze Dance,” or “Fast & Slow” encourage creativity while teaching dancers to listen carefully to lyrics and respond with movement. These playful activities build the foundation for retaining choreography as they grow.
🧩 Obstacle Courses
While they may look like pure fun, obstacle courses are essential for developing gross motor skills. From hopping on one foot, balancing on beams, or sequencing movements in order, dancers are strengthening muscles, improving coordination, building body awareness, and learning patience and persistence.
💃 Learning New Moves
Each week we introduce one new movement, keeping it simple so dancers feel confident without being overwhelmed. We often return to the centre—whether in a circle or straight lines—to explore this move together before putting it into practice.
🎶 Ending with a Combo or Game
We love to finish class with a short routine or a fun movement game. This gives dancers a sense of accomplishment and joy, leaving them excited to return the following week.
Every stretch, exercise, and game has a purpose. Our goal is always to nurture your child’s creativity, confidence, and love for dance while building the physical and social skills that will help them thrive in and out of the studio.
