Caledonia Studio of Dance invites dancers to audition for placement on our competitive team. Auditions are held annually and provide an opportunity for dancers to be evaluated for team placement based on a comprehensive set of criteria that reflects both their current skill level and their potential for growth.

Thinking of Auditioning for the Competitive Team?
Things to Consider:
Joining a competitive team is a significant commitment — one that requires dedication from both the dancer and their family. Before auditioning, we ask all families to consider the following:
Attendance & Practice. Competitive team members are expected to attend all scheduled weekly practices, mandatory rehearsals, and every competition date throughout the season. Attendance is non-negotiable, as each dancer's presence directly impacts the team.
Competition Schedule. Competitions are held on weekends throughout the season and may fall on holidays or long weekends. Families must be prepared to accommodate the full competition calendar.
Financial Commitment. Competitive enrolment involves higher tuition than recreational programming, as well as costs for competition entry fees, costumes and uniforms, and travel including transportation and accommodation for out-of-town events.
Family Involvement. CSOD competitive families are active participants in the team community. Parents may be asked to assist with travel coordination, event volunteering, and general team support throughout the season.
HOW PLACEMENT WORKS
Team Placement Criteria
At CSOD, team placement decisions are never based on a single moment. We evaluate each dancer holistically, using four equally weighted factors to ensure every placement is the right fit for the dancer, their team, and the season ahead.
Each of the following criteria accounts for 25% of the overall placement decision:
Age & Development Level — We assess each dancer's emotional and social maturity, technical progression, comprehension of instruction, and overall coachability relative to their age group.
Attendance & Commitment — A dancer's existing history at CSOD is taken into account, including their class attendance record, punctuality, and presence at mandatory events such as dress rehearsals and recitals.
Audition Performance — During the audition, dancers are evaluated on their ability to pick up choreography quickly, demonstrate proper technique, and maintain composure and professionalism under performance conditions.
Classroom Behaviour — We consider how a dancer conducts themselves in class on an ongoing basis, including active listening, respect for coaches and peers, adherence to studio expectations, and a consistent positive attitude and eagerness to improve.
Placement is competitive. Not every dancer who auditions will be offered a team position. Decisions are communicated to families following the completion of all audition dates.
