The first day of dance class is something to get excited about! Some dancers may feel a bit nervous and/or shy about the first dance lesson, but that is normal when trying any new activity. The best thing to do is talk about the class beforehand in a fun, light-hearted manner to ease some of those nerves. Dancers can expect a general introduction on the first day of class. The teacher will introduce themselves, take attendance and possibly do a fun ice breaker so the dancers can start becoming friends. If applicable, dancers will learn about their dress code and dance shoes. The first day of class can be a bit chaotic as everyone gets to know one another, and dancers are learning the class structure and expectations of the teacher. It will take a couple of classes to get into the swing of things. Parents should not be worried on the first day if a student looks or feels a bit lost. That is what class is about... learning and improving!
Toddler dance classes can be especially lively on the first day, as the teachers are learning all the students’ names. It’s also often their first time in a class setting ever. Time will resolve all the initial bumps as students become accustomed to their teacher and class format. We provide name tags for our little dancers when they enter the classroom on day 1, and have lots of student assistants to help out!
Older classes will also start learning basic warm-up combinations that may be challenging at first. They will be consistently used throughout the entire course, so that the warm-ups can be completed with ease each week.
Overall, parents and dancers should expect an exciting experience on the first day of dance class, where students start learning the basic format and rules and review material from the previous class level. The most important thing, as always, is to have fun and start falling in love with the art of dance!

- Every year we have a photo booth outside for dancers to get their picture taken to commemorate this special milestone! Make sure you check it out before or after class.
- Please have your dancer use washroom prior to class and arrive 5 minutes early to find the studio room your class is in.
-Class attire- We have attached a Dancewear Inspo board below to give you some ideas on what is best to wear in class. CSOD does not have a colour or style requirement. We feel our dancers should express themselves and wear colours that they feel confident and safe in!
-Proper footwear is always recommended but it's not necessary in the first couple weeks of class. We like dancers to get used to our studio space and sometimes it's just easier in bare feet! We are happy to give out dance shoe recommendations in September when we see you at the studio.
-We have a limited number of used dance shoes, as well as brand new ballet slippers available for sale at the front desk.
