Caledonia Studio of Dance Policies
1) PAYMENT POLICIES
a) Dance fees are based on a yearly rate, but we offer a monthly payment option for your convenience. Therefore some months may have more classes per month than others.
b) You can view your account balance online anytime by signing in to our Family Portal. If at any time you would like a printed statement of your account you may request one. CLICK HERE to log into your account
c) All payments are due on the first of each calendar month. We have a grace period of 15 days. If a payment has not been made by the 16th of each month, a 5% late fee charge will be added to your account. Registration fees of $45 per FAMILY are due upon registration and are non-refundable. Our registration fee includes a free digital copy of our recital.
d) Our students are in our database alphabetically by their last name. Many of our students have different last names from parents and/or grandparents who are paying for dance expenses. In order for us to properly credit your account, the following details will be important for us to know each time you make a payment.
**Student(s) First & Last Name. (Very important!!) and what the payment is for.
e) Costume payments are due by December 15th. For your convenience, you are welcome to split up your costume payments from September through to December. Costumes are $90 for recreational costumes, and $150 for competitive (All including HST). Each year costumes are ordered or made for our dancers. Measurements are taken by our staff in the new year and each measurement is compared to a size chart set forth by the various costume companies. Costumes are a set price at CSOD, unless otherwise stated. Shoes and tights are not included in the Costume fee. If a dancer withdrawals from CSOD after the costume has been purchased, they may take the costume, however no refunds will be given
f) Ticket Sale Day occurs at the beginning of May for the sale of our Year End Recital Tickets. Accounts must be up to date in order to purchase tickets on this day. We provide a live feed backstage for all dancers to view the show, but if they wish to watch from the auditorium, a ticket must be purchased for them. We pride ourselves on a top quality, professional and smooth show, and this creates a seamless event that eliminates dancers being late for their routines, and distracting movement in the auditorium during a performance.
g) We will schedule group pictures in dance costumes to be taken by a 3rd party professional photographer near recital. Please participate in the group pictures even if you do not intend to buy. Individual pictures are also taken for those who are interested. All costs for pictures are through the photographer directly. Any concerns about pictures or their cost should be discussed with the photographer at an appropriate time. Each student and his or her legal guardians releases the rights to all photography, web and or video (including television coverage) that may be taken at the Caledonia Studio of Dance during class, and/or at performances or competitions for use of advertising and promotion.
2) CLASSROOM POLICIES:
a) Our dress code consists of dance attire, yoga pants or shorts, tank tops, body suit and tights, or anything lightweight and moveable. Jeans or non-stretch clothing is not permitted. Competitive Ballet Dancers must wear a black bodysuit, tights, and canvas Ballet Shoes.
b) All students are encouraged not to leave the room once class has begun. Please allow for appropriate washroom use prior to class. Very young children will be treated sensitively as the need arises. Preschool children may need a parent’s attention from time to time for various reasons including bathroom or behavior issues. Please do not leave the waiting room when very young children are in class without informing the office or having another parent responsible during your absence. We make every effort to have all children feel safe and cared for in a loving and inspiring learning environment.
c) School age children and teens: please practice respect. Students are not to be socializing in a disruptive manner during the class with other students. Please come early or stay late to enjoy friends in the waiting area. Please honour your teacher and fellow students by giving full attention and co-operation. You will be advised if we feel any student is not well adjusted to the classroom environment for any reason over time.
d) During class if a student complains of being ill, or sustains an injury and cannot participate, the instructor will send them to the front desk were the parents will be notified, if not on the premises.
e) Only students with a pre-existing sickness/injury are allowed to observe class. The parents must notify the office if a student is to observe class. We encourage dancers to come to class and observe as long as they are not contagious, so they won't fall behind.
f) In order to take full advantage of the instruction offered, regular attendance is necessary. There are no refunds for missed lessons. Be certain to notify the studio if there is to be an extended series of absences. Irregular attendance impedes the progress of the child and their class because instructors must go back and re-teach what the other dancers learned the week before.
g) Students should be quiet and courteous at all times. Students should be prompt for class, and should treat the teacher with respect. No running! Hanging on the ballet barres is prohibited. Stay off and away from studio equipment unless directed to do so. Gossip, foul language, bullying or violence is strictly prohibited at the Caledonia Studio of Dance. Any student or parent found in violation will be asked to leave the studio.
h) Home practice plays a vital role in class advancement. Nothing can be accomplished just by thinking about it! Each student must take the responsibility to learn techniques properly and thoroughly by: attending classes regularly, allowing time for personal practice; and practicing faithfully and sincerely.
i) We feel it is important to watch your child grow and develop, that is why there is a closed circuit video feed in the dance room and you are welcome to relax in our waiting room and watch your child’s class. We have a visitor’s week once a year for dancers to invite a family member into class to observe their progress. We also periodically invite parents into the rooms near the end of class to view certain accomplishments throughout the year.
j) Patience and understanding are essential. No child wishes to be inferior to the rest of the class and all children learn at a different rate. Please, do not berate your child in front of others. There is a certain strain on all of us when parents are observing, and at times children just try too hard.
k)If you have any cause for complaint about a child or teacher, please do not barge in during class time, or discuss it before your child or another child or parent. Please, ask for a time for a private interview, and you will receive full attention, respect and gratitude. Call the Studio at (905) 765-8885.

Use your own discretion regarding attendance if the driving is difficult from your area.
b) If CSOD cancels a class, a make-up date will be announced. If you are unable to attend the scheduled make-up date, students will be responsible for arranging their own make-up classes at a time that is convenient for them. No credit will be given for missed classes.
c) If for any reason you decide to discontinue your classes, you are not obligated to pay for the balance of the school year. If a student withdrawals mid-month, we do not refund the current month. A student will not be withdrawn until confirmed DIRECT TO OUR OFFICE STAFF by a parent or guardian via email. Cheques then may be picked up at the studio, sent back to you, or destroyed. In the case of a withdrawal, costume deposits will only be refunded prior to December 1st. After this time, only costumes will be given.
